Donna Summer died this past Thursday after battling cancer. Summer
was known as the “Queen of Disco” and, like so many other gay men, I grew up
listening to Summer’s extraordinary music. Some of Summer’s risqué '70s hits
like "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls" and "Love to Love You
Baby” played an important part of the gay community celebrating our own
sexuality at the time. New
Zealand artist Natasha Bedingfield sang
Summer’s hit “Last Dance” in tribute to her at this past Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. Bedingfield said of Summer, “if we can remember her through her music,
this will never really be her last dance." Summer was 63 years old. RIP
Ms. Summer, we loved you so much and you will be missed enormously. (Illustration made with Brushes for iPad)
