Sea Turtles

These two T-shirt designs are for The Sea Turtle Restoration Project; a project of the nonprofit environmental organization Turtle Island Restoration Network. Sea Turtles are one of the most threatened animals by the Gulf oil disaster. There are seven species of sea turtles in the world. Five of them live only in the Gulf. They're surface feeders for the most part so they ingest the oil directly.

Gulf Oil Disaster

Like most people, I've been really concerned about the growing problem of the continuing oil leak in the Gulf. I read an article on CNN about a man who lives in Pensacola, taking pictures and videos of the oil that has appeared on the beaches there.  (article can be read here) His name is Gregg Hall.  I was really impressed with the interview and Hall's use of a quote from an old Cree Indian prophecy:

"Only after the last tree has been cut down... Only after the last river has been poisoned… Only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten."

It really stayed with me so I decided to connect with him on facebook and asked him if there was anything I could do to help. He asked me if I could design a t-shirt for him to be sold on Cafe Press to help get the word out.  I was happy to help and made three designs for him from which he used one for the actual t-shirt. The shirt can be viewed here. (The price is for the cost of the shirt only. No profits) Gregg has become known as PcolaGregg. He has developed a large following on facebook and he was recently featured in a piece on CNN with fellow Pensacola resident Diana which can be viewed here. As of July 1 the federal government estimates more than 140 million gallons of oil have spilled into the Gulf since April 20.

The Wishing Chair

This is another drawing from my camping trip. I wanted to draw but no one would pose for me so I just drew this random chair. I called this the Wishing Chair because I've been listening to 10,000 Maniacs lately and it made me think of a lyric in their song "Can't Ignore the Train." The song ends with the lyrics "Sitting in the wishing chair."

Camping Trip

I went on a camping trip to West Virginia over Mother's Day weekend. I rode in the back seat all the way there. I was so bored that I drew this of my friend Gary driving. I painted it later using a photo that I took of him as reference.

Rahm Emanuel

I did this illustration of Rahm Emanuel because I think he's handsome. Also ever since the Eric Massa shower rumors I haven't been able to get Rahm out out my head.

Roger Ailes as the Devil

I made this to show my continuing disgust for the Fox fake news cable channel. It's Roger Ailes as the devil. Come on now you know it's true, let's be real.

Ivri Lider

Openly gay, Israeli pop singer, Ivri Lider. He is one of my favorite music artists right now. His debut English language CD is coming soon. I can't wait.
