Sea Turtles

These two T-shirt designs are for The Sea Turtle Restoration Project; a project of the nonprofit environmental organization Turtle Island Restoration Network. Sea Turtles are one of the most threatened animals by the Gulf oil disaster. There are seven species of sea turtles in the world. Five of them live only in the Gulf. They're surface feeders for the most part so they ingest the oil directly.

Gulf Oil Disaster

Like most people, I've been really concerned about the growing problem of the continuing oil leak in the Gulf. I read an article on CNN about a man who lives in Pensacola, taking pictures and videos of the oil that has appeared on the beaches there.  (article can be read here) His name is Gregg Hall.  I was really impressed with the interview and Hall's use of a quote from an old Cree Indian prophecy:

"Only after the last tree has been cut down... Only after the last river has been poisoned… Only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten."

It really stayed with me so I decided to connect with him on facebook and asked him if there was anything I could do to help. He asked me if I could design a t-shirt for him to be sold on Cafe Press to help get the word out.  I was happy to help and made three designs for him from which he used one for the actual t-shirt. The shirt can be viewed here. (The price is for the cost of the shirt only. No profits) Gregg has become known as PcolaGregg. He has developed a large following on facebook and he was recently featured in a piece on CNN with fellow Pensacola resident Diana which can be viewed here. As of July 1 the federal government estimates more than 140 million gallons of oil have spilled into the Gulf since April 20.
